In page 1 we explained the meaning of production batch. Page 2 introduces the transfer batch. Here is a practical application. Transfer batch and production batch, in practiceHere is a production line with two machines M1 and M2. Parts have to be processed on M1 and M2 consecutively. Production batch size is 8 parts, split in two transfer batches of four. In the picture below, production already started on M1, part #3 is currently set on M1. As soon as part #4 is done on M1, the first transfer batch is completed. This transfer batch is moved near machine M2, the empty container in front of M1 is moved behind so to be filled with finished parts. Part #5 is set onto M1 while machine M2 starts on part #1.
